This consultancy assignment is to support the authorities in the Governorates of Qena and Assiut through the preparation and implementation of Solid Waste Management SWM investments under the framework of the “National Solid Waste Management Programme (NSWMP)” and the establishment and functioning of the Solid Waste Management Units SWMUs in these Governorates (Consultancy for Programme Implementation – CPI). Work is undertaken in close collaboration with the national and local level administrations, ensuring that their capacity to undertake necessary tasks is strengthened in the process.

AAW Responsibilities

For  the Master Plan the following data is collected:
Population and population growth during next 20 years
Waste generation rate and growth
Waste composition
Existing facilities and opportunities for recycling
Cost for waste collection, transport, treatment and revenues
Existing bottlenecks within the public services for waste management (fleet, maintenance, existing equipment, personnel etc.)
For the Immediate Measures:
Equipment integration with waste collection & transport system
Can some private organizations be supported with some of the collections vehicles?
Placement of transfer station due to distances
Identifying training needs for contracting the private sector
