Makkah Strategic Water Reservoirs, KSA

The goal of the Strategic Reservoirs in Makkah Al-Mukarammah is to Supplement the Strategic Storage Capacity during the Peak Demand Period (Ramadan and Hajj) by 4.5 million m3 over 3 phases, each phase 1.5 million m3.

Two sites have been selected at Moaissam and Sharaea each site with 4 steel reservoirs 170,000 m3 each.

Moaissam Site:
4 x 170,000 m3 = 760,000 m3, constructed and fed from Rabigh desalination plant.

Sharaea Site:
4 x 170,000 m3 = 760,000 m3, to be fed from Shoaiba desalination plant.

In standard operation the Makkah (Sharaea) Strategic Reservoir will be fed with desalinated water from the new Rabigh desalination plant via a new 2 x 64” twin pipeline. Alternatively, as an emergency scenario, the Reservoir Station can also be supplied from Shoaiba desalination plant via a new 80” connection pipeline between Mina and Sharaea Reservoir Station.
